We’d just planned to go out for a cup of tea today . . . .

My son and I were just going to meet up with some friends at a local cafe for a cup of tea after church.

We agreed on the place, and went our separate ways, them in their car, ours on foot. It was just a few blocks, but they’d have to find parking. We’d see them there shortly.

It was only sprinkling when we walked out.
Within a block, it was raining pretty hard, but it was OK. We had our umbrella.
.
Within 2 blocks, we’d splashed through enough puddles that our feet were completely soaked, but it was OK. Our upper bodies were still pretty dry. After all, we had our umbrella.

One block later, and the torrential winds picked up. We stepped inside a local shop to wait for a few minutes and see if the winds would let up a little.

Five minutes later, the winds continued to howl, but we didn’t want to wait too much longer. Our friends would be waiting. So we said why bother with the umbrella? It’s only two more blocks!

No sooner had we stepped out of the doorway of the shop, then the heavens opened up and rain dumped down on us in buckets!!! Nothing left to do but dance our way to the cafe.

? I splashed in puddles in my purple Crocs!
? I channeled my inner Gene Kelly!!
? I even chased a stranger’s windblown umbrella through traffic!!!

Eventually, we made it to the designated meeting place. Turns out, our friends had already come and gone; they’d been told it was full. Or they were turned away at the door, unaware that were were dripping all over the seats we’d saved for them inside the crowded cafe. It didn’t diminish our enjoyment of the steaming cups of light brew and tasty chocolate treats we relished as we warmed ourselves from the rainy chill.

We’d just planned to go out for a cup of tea. The weather had other plans. But rather than racing to get out of the liquid sunshine that God showered upon us today, we decided to slow down and dance in it! My son and I ended up having one of the most memorable afternoons in our entire year!!! ???
